23 Sep Meet Nolan Christopher…
My water, may or may not have just broken…..”
Those Hollywood movie-styled words from my smiling wife started a whirlwind day that would end up producing the single greatest achievement of our life.
As I’m sure you may have heard, we welcomed Nolan Christopher Phillips into this world Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10:44 AM. He was two weeks earlier than our September, 28th due date and had to be delivered via c-section, because little Nolan decided he was going to come out breech. After a bit of grogginess and some temperature issues that sent us to the NICU for the first hour of his life, Mommy and baby were reunited and our family of 3 was together for good! Nolan weighed 6lbs 14oz and was 18.5in long. The only time I’ve seen something so beautiful and perfect in my life has been my wife, but this little guy has stolen my heart.
Our little adventure started in January, when two pregnancy tests and doctor visit confirmed that we were having a baby. Overjoyed and a bit nervous, we started mapping out what we wanted to do for our nursery, what kind of clothing, and how we were going to raise our child. We have had names picked out since we first got married for our first girl and boy, so names weren’t an issue. Nolan came from our discussions on names right after we got married, We went through listing old-fashioned names and Nolan popped up. Me, being the big baseball fan I am, thought “like Nolan Ryan??” Jessica, who didn’t have a clue, said “Oh thats good! I like that…” I had to step in and ixnay the “Ryan” part, because I knew everyone would think “Really….?” So, we added Christopher, and we were all smiles about it!
Nolan’s room turned out perfect for our style. I couldn’t be happier with the transformation of a small guest bedroom with awful wallpaper and terrible carpet into perfect explanation of us. We had no idea what would be waiting for us underneath the wallpaper and ceiling tiles but as soon as we stripped it all away, we were in love. The room was constructed entirely of salvaged wood. As you can see in the pictures, the ceiling is just beautiful and already catches Nolan’s attention. We added paint to 3 of the walls, nice fluffy carpet and lots of cool pieces of art and sit-abouts around the room. To date, its my favorite room in our house!
Just last saturday, Jessica finally decided to have some maternity pictures made. If there’s one thing we dislike more than anything, its getting OUR picture taken (Ironic…) Luckily we did them when we did though, because she had the baby two days later. As beautiful and easy to shoot as she already is, I must admit I’ve never been more nervous taking pictures in my life. I wanted these pictures to be the best photos I’d ever taken and to truly express Jessica. I have to say, I’m happy with the results and she loves them too. Success!
We continued to work all the way through the pregnancy and even though I tried to keep Jess from working too much, she still gave her 100% for every job we had. In fact, she was still fluffing dresses and directing shoots the day before Nolan arrived (can you say “dedicated…?”). We have to give a special shout out to all our clients who were so understanding and accommodating to us, and a big thank you to the ones that kept checking on us and sending us your thoughts and prayers. Now, Jessica will take a much needed break from work to tend to little man, and I will continue working and taking care of our great customers. We are so thankful for you all!
As I type this, my two loves are here beside me, having a bottle before supper and everything is just lovely… In the photos below, I hope you can sense just a portion of the love, pride, and excitement that brews in our little family now.
I love you Jessica and Nolan! xoxo
